nothing changes on new year's day
While it's true that nothing changes on New Year's Day, it is a good time to reflect on the past year and make some plans and goals for the next year.
It's true that 2011 and I did not get off to the best start. In fact, if you had asked me on 12/31/10 what I thought the worst thing was that could happen to me, I probably would've listed being laid off from my job in the top ten. Top five, really. December 2010 was a pretty rough month for me. I was being worked to death, and while I won't get into details here, I was feeling rather heartbroken. My job had become a comforting constant in my life in some ways, and I loved the work I did and the contribution I felt like I was making.
In January 2011, that was taken away from me. I was devastated at the time but former coworker who had been laid off before me told me that my life would improve greatly once I left there, that this was the shove I needed to get out, and that I should RUN, not walk, to the next chapter of my life.
And you know what? He was right.
2011 may have gotten off to a rough start, however, I persevered even when I didn't think I could, and now as 2012 begins I can say that I have never felt better about myself and I know that many good things await me this year.
I have a few goals in mind for this year but that will be another blog for another day. For now, I must sleep.
Good night, and Happy MMXII!
